Iron Wire has become essential for daily use. From the construction industry to electronic manufacturing, iron wires are necessary for these sorts of projects. But have you ever wondered how galvanized iron wire is produced? Here in this post, we will go through the manufacturing process of Galvanized Iron Wires in simple steps.
Steel rods are used and act as the primary raw material used to manufacture different types of iron wires along with cleaning agents like Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) solution, Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) base, pickle liquor, and oils. The raw material is procured from a trusted vendor and the quality of the raw material is checked by Incoming Quality Control (IQC) units. After the quality is checked, raw material is stored in designated storage areas with storage recommendations from the supplier.
These steps are used to treat the metal surface in the finishing and cleaning to remove traces of rust and impurities from the surface. In this process, raw steel rods are placed in a rack that is rinsed in tanks.
The rack is then placed in a cleaning machine containing an amount of Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) base to remove dust and other impurities from the surface of the rods.
The rack containing rinsed and cleaned steel rods are then immersed in another tank of Hydrochloric acid (HCl) and is kept long enough to treat and remove corrosion, rust, and scales contained on the surface. This step is called pickling.
After initial rinsing and pickling, the tank is then rinsed again to remove the Hydrochloric acid from the surface. After the second rinse, it is fed again in the cleaning machine for the second time with a Sodium Hydroxide base to neutralize the traces of HCl into salt.
After all the steps, the rack is rinsed one last time and then oils are applied on the surface to keep them corrosion free.
The process of wire drawing is started when the clean and pickled steel rods are rolled in large bobbins. The rods then have to be passed through various wire drawing machines. The machines are of different sizes and diameters. To get the desired size of iron wire, the rod has to go through the drawing machine multiple times to achieve the required size. The size of the larger wire reduces gradually due to the thick and dense material.
By following the first three steps, black iron wire is manufactured industrially.
The black iron wire is then sent for metal coating or galvanization for a smooth and silky surface as well as high resistibility. Mostly Galvanization is carried out using two methods, hot dip galvanized method and electroplating.
In this way, Galvanized iron wire is obtained in bulk quantity.
